The reservoir area of Son La hydropower reservoir is located in the districts of Quynh Nhai, Thuan Chau, Muong La (Son La province); Muong Lay town (Dien Bien province), Sin Ho district (Lai Chau province). Conveniently located on National Highway 279, Highway 6B, connecting Highway 6, National Road 32 through provincial roads 106, provincial road 109. With fresh climate with large water landscape system, the islands, peninsula, submerged lagoon, diversity of national cultural identity, prominent attractions, facilitate tourism development.
Location of tourism The reservoir area of Son La hydropower reservoir has been identified in the strategic orientation of Vietnam tourism development as well as the master plan for tourism development in Son La province. The development of tourism The reservoir area of Hoa Binh and Son La is important for the development of tourism not only in Son La province but also in the country.
In addition, in 2008, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has prepared a tourism development plan for the Northern Midland and Mountainous Region Tourism to 2020 (approved in Decision No. 91/2008 / QĐ-BVHTTDL, dated 30/12/2008 of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in this master plan, the area of the reservoir area of Son La hydropower reservoir is identified in the intra-regional routes.
Decision No. 201 / QD-TTg dated 22/01/2013 of the Prime Minister approving the "master plan for development of Vietnam's tourism up to 2020 with a vision to 2030" Son La hydropower reservoir is identified as one of the important tourist sites.
